Dr. Ericka Ford

Assistant Professor in Textile Technology Department of Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science

Dr. Ericka Ford is an Assistant Professor within NC State’s College of Textiles (COT). She holds a joint appointment in the Department of Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science and The Nonwovens Institute. Prior to joining the College of Textiles, Dr. Ford served as a National Research Council postdoctoral awardee in Chemical and Biological Defense, Science and Technology at the US Army Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center. Her research is in the area of “Engineered Surfaces & Interphases” for high strength, high modulus nanocomposite fibers; nonwovens as protective barrier textiles and therapeutics; and sustainable finishes and coating technologies for value-added textiles. Dr Ford holds a PhD in Textiles and Fiber Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology; a MS in Polymer Science from the University of Southern Mississippi; and BS in Polymer Fiber Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology.

Dr. Joel Gaston

Senior Research Scientist

Dr. Joel Gaston is a Senior Research Scientist with The Geneva Foundation, working on the Department of Defense 4D Bio3 project. He also holds an adjunct faculty appointment with the Uniformed Services University. Prior to joining the 4D Bio3 project, Dr. Gaston served as a postdoctoral research fellow in the chemistry division at the US Naval Research Laboratory. His research interests and progress lie in the areas of tissue engineering, biomaterial scaffolds, and biomanufacturing. Dr. Gaston holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
